1. What is PAYE Anytime?

PAYE Anytime is the Irish Revenue On-Line Service for employees. This interactive facility offers individuals who pay taxes under the Pay As You Earn (PAYE )system, a quick, secure and cost effective method to manage their taxes online. With PAYE Anytime you can avail of a full suite of services including viewing information held on your Revenue record. You can claim Tax Credits, declare additional income and update some personal information.

3. How do I register for PAYE Anytime?

It is easy to register and avail of a wide range of services. There are 3 simple steps to register, which allows Revenue validate your identity, thereby ensuring all online transactions with Revenue are secure.

To Register - Log onto www.revenue.ie, from the PAYE Anytime logo, click on the Register button.

  1. Step 1 - Enter your Personal Public Service Number (PPSN)
  2. Step 2 - Enter your Personal Details
  3. Step 3 - Enter your contact details i.e. daytime contact number and your e-mail address.

Remember to click Continue to submit your details.

Following the successful verification of your personal details, you will be issued with a Revenue PIN by post.

4. After registering do I need anything else to access PAYE Anytime?

You will need your Personal Public Service Number (PPSN) and the requested 3 digits of your Revenue PIN to access your Revenue account. The Revenue PIN is 6 digits in length. At Login stage you will be asked for 3 randomly selected digits to establish your identity. You are also required to answer a security question. This security question will be based on information held on Revenue records.

You will have a maximum of 3 attempts to authenticate your Revenue PIN otherwise you will be locked out of the system for 24 hours.

5. Forgotten Revenue PIN

It is important to note that if you forget or misplace your Revenue PIN, you must re- register in order to use the PAYE Anytime service. This re-registration will generate a new PIN.

7. Can I access/amend my spouse/civil partner details?

Yes - Either spouse/civil partner can access and amend details if you are Jointly Assessed.

8. Can I declare my PAYE Income(s) and claim Tax Credits in the Irish language?

Yes - if you are registered with Revenue as an Irish-speaking customer PAYE Anytime will automatically be made available to you in Irish.

The screen is displayed in the language the user has registered for. The user when logged into the application can switch the language button to see the information either in English or Gaeilge.

9. Can I use PAYE Anytime to access my PAYE Tax details without claiming a review?

Yes - PAYE Anytime is available to customers who merely want access to their tax details. It is not a requirement of PAYE Anytime that, if you register, you must submit transactions electronically.

The Overview page displays your current year summary. It also allows you to navigate throughout the PAYE services. From this page services may be accessed by clicking the tabs across the top of the screen. The services available are:

13. Can I change my address using PAYE Anytime?

No - your contact information cannot be changed using PAYE Anytime. To change your address you will need to contact your local tax office.

14. Is there a calculation facility on PAYE Anytime to help me calculate reliefs due?

Yes - by selecting the Calculate option (clicking on the calculate button presented on the screen) you will be advised of the amount of relief to be granted at the standard rate of tax.

15. What information is available in the Overview page?

The Overview page allows access to information on the current and previous four years tax credits and incomes. Selecting a year enables you to view, amend and update your tax credits and incomes, which will be used to determine your tax liability. Once your changes have been processed by Revenue you will be issued with a new tax credit certificate or PAYE balancing statement/end of year review (P21).

16. Tell me more about Your Requests History?

Your Requests History is your own personal secure mailbox. This is where copies of all transactions you have submitted to Revenue via PAYE Anytime are held. Your Requests History is held on the secure Revenue On line site. This means nobody, other than you, can have access to it.

You can view all new documents, and all previously read documents. There is a search facility in your Requests History, which allows you to search/view a document using the document type or a notice number.

Your Requests History items that have been read can be archived so that they are no longer viewable on the initial screen. Archived documents can be retrieved at any time by using the search facility.

17. How do I request End Of Year Review/Balancing Statement (P21) for previous years?

As well as displaying the current year the Overview page displays links to the previous four years on the main navigation bar. By selecting a year the user will be brought to the Tax Overview screen for that year. On this page a user can claim a tax credit (including Health Expenses) for that year and also request an End of Year Review/PAYE balancing statement (P21) for that year.

Please ensure that your Personal Information held by Revenue, is correct and up to date, as this will determine your entitlements.

When you submit your request for a PAYE balancing statement (P21) you will be asked to confirm your pay and tax details held on our record for that year.

In addition to entering details of the tax credits you wish to claim for the review year, you can also enter missing pay and tax details if appropriate. These details are shown on form P60, which issues from your employer, after the end of the tax year.

Remember: if you are already registered for PAYE Anytime and have signed up to receive your correspondence electronically, your (P21) Balancing Statement or any other correspondence from Revenue is only available to view and print by clicking on the "Your Requests History" tab in PAYE Anytime.

18. Four Key Steps to Enter the Correct Pay and Tax Deducted Amounts
  1. You should only use the amounts shown on the Form P60 which has been given to you by your employer. The relevant amounts on this form that you should enter are shown as Pay, in respect of THIS period of employment (See Part (A) 3 of P60) and Net Tax Deducted, in this period of employment (See Part (B) 3 of P60). Any amounts deducted in respect of PRSI, USC must not be included.
  2. Take care to ensure that you are using the Form P60 appropriate to the year of the claim e.g. for 2011, use the Form P60 for year ended 31 December 2011.
  3. Please ignore the cent amount when entering the Pay figure.
  4. You should never enter approximate amounts, only use the details on the Form P60.

19. How do I submit details to Revenue through PAYE Anytime?

As you complete each request in PAYE Anytime a summary will be held in Your PAYE Requests. When you are satisfied that these requests are correct you can then submit all changes .You complete this process by entering 3 randomly selected digits from your Revenue PIN and clicking on the submit button.

Requests will not become effective until you click the Submit button.

Please note that Requests you've previously submitted may not be reflected in PAYE Anytime for 2 days.

If you have accessed PAYE Anytime through ROS Business you can submit all changes by entering the password for your digital certificate and clicking on the submit button.

20. Will a receipt of my declaration/claim be acknowledged?

Yes - this is the final stage in the filing process. Immediately after submitting a request you will receive an on screen acknowledgement and details of the transactions are then available for viewing as a new item in your Requests History.

21. Can a self-employed individual access his/her PAYE details?

Yes - Self-employed individuals may access their PAYE details with their Digital Certificate if they have an active PAYE record. The PAYE services can be accessed from the 'My Services' page after log in by clicking on the 'PAYE' banner tab link on all Business Services pages.

When submitting a claim, if the self-employed individual entered PAYE Anytime though ROS Business they must enter their digital certificate password before clicking the submit button.

23. How do I register for Income Tax through PAYE Anytime?

A customer can register for Income Tax by selecting the current year and clicking the "Register for Income Tax" link in the left-hand panel. You must supply information regarding your Business/Economic Activity. Once you have submitted your request your registration details can be processed.

24. Where can I Find my Pay & Tax Details?
  1. You should only use the amounts shown on your Form P60 or Form P45, which have been given to you by your current or your previous employer. The relevant amounts on these forms are shown as Pay, this employment and Tax Deducted, this employment.
  2. Take care to ensure that you are using the correct Form P60 or Form P45 for the appropriate year i.e. only use the 2010 Form P60 details for entries to that year.

2. Can I view the PAYE Anytime Tour if I don't have broadband, or if my internet connection is slow?

If you are using dial-up or have a slow broadband connection (i.e. below 1 Mbps), it is recommended that you select the 'text only' version of the Tour. This is because the full Tour includes videos, which are best viewed via a fast Broadband Connection.

4. Do I need to watch all of the videos before I use PAYE Anytime?

No. They are there to help you to familiarise yourself with the features of PAYE Anytime and to provide an overview of each of the topics that they deal with.

5. Is there a text version of the videos?

Yes, a text version of each video is available. To choose the text version click 'Text Only' at the top of the PAYE Anytime Tour screen. The icons on the menu will change from clapperboards to pages. When you choose a tutorial it will now be displayed in text format.

6. Can I switch from a video to a text version while a video is playing?

If you want to switch to the 'text' version of a video while a video is playing, you will need to click on the 'Home Tab' on the PAYE Anytime Tour Menu, located on the left hand side of the screen. Then, select the 'Text Only' option at the top of the screen and when you choose a tutorial it will be displayed in text format.

7. How do I change the screen magnification or select the high contrast option while watching the videos?

If you want to change the screen magnification or chose the high contrast option while watching a video you should click the 'Home Tab' on the PAYE Anytime Tour Menu, which is located on the left hand side of the screen. Then choose the high contrast option or the magnification that you require by clicking on the relevant icon at the top of the screen. The screen display will adjust accordingly.

1. Do I need special equipment to use PAYE Anytime?

In order to use PAYE Anytime you require a computer with an Internet connection. You will also need some special software installed on your computer to be able to use some of the functions in the system. These requirements are explained in the answers to the following series of questions, but are also available by navigating to the System Requirements page from the ROS Home page. Any software which you need to run the system is available free of charge.

2. Do I need a particular type of computer to have access to PAYE Anytime?

The system will operate on most popular types of personal computers, MACs and laptops. One of our goals in building the system was that it be capable of running on a wide variety of commonly used computers. We have taken particular care during the testing stage of the project to ensure that this is indeed the case.

You can view the PAYE Anytime web application with a wide range of browsers. We have tested our site with Internet Explorer (6 & 7), Mozilla Firefox (2 & 3) and Safari (2). For the latest versions of these browsers, you can download from the following links:

5. Is there any other software I need to use PAYE Anytime?

Yes. If you have elected to receive your correspondence electronically from Revenue, notifications will be available to view and print in Your Requests History. These notifications will include tax certificates, balancing statements, etc. These documents will be published in what is called PDF format and you will need particular software such as Adobe Acrobat Reader to display the document. You can download Adobe Acrobat Reader for free from the Adobe web site - www.adobe.com

6. What optimum screen resolution should be used?

The standard and most common screen resolution used at present is 1024 X 768. We have designed the system to work most efficiently using this standard.

7. Do I need an active e-mail account?

In order to become a PAYE Anytime customer, you must have a working e-mail account. You will be required to supply PAYE Anytime with your e-mail address when applying to become a PAYE Anytime customer. Should you wish to change the e-mail address you have registered with PAYE Anytime, you will be able to do so at any time using the Profile section.

8. I am registered for ROS Business and I am also registered for PAYE Anytime. Can I use my ROS digital certificate in the new PAYE Anytime site?

PAYE anytime does support digital certificates. Customers who sign in to ROS Business and then toggle to PAYE Anytime will be brought to the new PAYE Anytime site where their digital certificate will be suported and they will be logged in automatically.

11. What is Adobe Flash Player?

Flash Player is an Internet browser plug-in that delivers an enhanced Web experience. It is installed on 99% of Internet-enabled desktops worldwide. Flash Player 9 is the minimum requirement for PAYE Anytime. You can download Adobe Flash Player for free from the Adobe web site - www.adobe.com
Please note that any versions upward of this may have difficulty with older operating systems such as Windows 98/ME, or Macintosh OSX 10.1-10.3.

12. How do I ensure I am viewing new versions of each webpage at every visit?

For Internet Explorer:

  1. Open Internet Explorer and click on Tools.
  2. From the menu options select Tools.
  3. From the dropdown menu options select Internet Options.
  4. In the General tab there are Temporary Internet Settings, click on Settings.
  5. Where it says "Check for newer versions of stored pages", select Every visit to the page.
  6. Click on the OK button at the bottom of the Settings window.
  7. Click on the OK button at the bottom of the Internet Options window.

For Netscape:

  1. Open Netscape Navigator.
  2. From the menu options select Edit.
  3. From the dropdown menu options select Preferences.
  4. Click on the '+' beside the Advanced option in the Category window on the left to expand subcategories.
  5. Click on the Cache option. Where it says "Document in cache is compared to document on network", select Every time.
  6. Click on the OK button at the bottom of the Preferences window.

For Safari:

  1. This can be done in one of two ways and must be done each time you want to view a new version of the page:
  2. Hold down the Command and Shift keys, and press R.
  3. Hold down the Shift key and click the Reload toolbar button.

For Firefox:

  1. Open Mozilla Firefox.
  2. From the dropdown menu options select Options.
  3. Select the Privacy tab.
  4. Under the History header, remove the check from the box labelled Remember visited pages for the last ___ days.

13. How do I enable JavaScript?

For Internet Explorer:

  1. Open Internet Explorer.
  2. From the menu options select Tools.
  3. From this dropdown menu select Internet Options.
  4. Click on the Security tab.
  5. From the list of zones at the top of the Security options select the Internet icon.
  6. Select the button near the bottom that reads Custom Level.
  7. In the new window that pops up, scroll down to the item that reads Active Scripting.
  8. Select the option marked Enable.
  9. Click on the OK button at the bottom of the Security Settings window.
  10. Click on the OK button at the bottom of the Options window.

For Netscape:

  1. Open Netscape Navigator.
  2. From the menu options select Edit.
  3. From the dropdown menu options select Preferences.
  4. Click on the Advanced option in the Category window on the left.
  5. Select the option Enable JavaScript.
  6. Click on the OK button at the bottom of the Preferences window.

For Safari:

  1. From the file menu, select Safari and then Preferences.
  2. Select the Security option.
  3. Under the Web Content options, click the checkbox next to Enable Javascript.
  4. Click OK and close the Preferences window.

For Firefox:

  1. Open Mozilla Firefox.
  2. From the menu options select Tools.
  3. From the dropdown menu select Options.
  4. Click on the Content tab and make sure that the Enable JavaScript option is checked.
  5. Click on the OK button at the bottom of the Options window.

14. How do I enable SSL 2.0 & SSL 3.0?

For Internet Explorer:

  1. Open Internet Explorer and click on Tools.
  2. From the dropdown menu options select Internet Options.
  3. Click on the Advanced tab.
  4. Scroll down to the bottom option and click on Security.
  5. Select the option Use SSL 2.0.
  6. Select the option Use SSL 3.0.
  7. Click on the OK button at the bottom of the Options window.

For Netscape:

  1. Open Netscape Navigator.
  2. From the menu options select Edit.
  3. From the dropdown menu options select Preferences.
  4. Click on the Privacy and Security option in the Category window on the left.
  5. Select the Enable SSL version 2 option.
  6. Select the Enable SSL version 3 option.
  7. Click on the OK button at the bottom of the Preferences window.

For Safari:

SSL is always enabled in Safari.

For Firefox:

  1. Open Mozilla Firefox and click on Tools.
  2. From the dropdown menu options select Options.
  3. Click on the Advanced tab.
  4. In the sub-heading click on the Encryption tab.
  5. Select the option Use SSL 3.0.
  6. Select the option Use TLS 1.0.
  7. Click on the OK button at the bottom of the Options window.

15. I require a screen reader. Are there any additional accessibility plug-ins needed to navigate the PAYE Anytime application?
